Standardization of priority processes in the recovery of a Francis type turbine wheel

Abstract
INTRODUCTION. Turbines are important elements of hydroelectric power plants that are prone to damage due to constant use. The repair or replacement of their parts is carried out abroad, which involves a very high economic investment. OBJECTIVE. To analyze in a particular way the runner recovery process of a Francis type turbine and to propose improvements for its optimization. METHOD. Through a field investigation, information is obtained based on the experience of the workers and existing formats and records are analyzed. The characterization of the processes, definition of the main activities to be developed and the missing documentation are carried out. Subsequently, changes are made in the welding process based on the RTE INEN 040 standard, considering the recommendations of the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the application of the 5M's. Also in static balance considering the ISO 21940-12-2016 standard. RESULTS. After the development and application of procedures, formats, control register and quality indicators under the CCH 70-4 standard, reprocesses are eliminated and resources are optimized. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. If the recovery process is carried out locally, it would reduce approximately four months and 42 months in the case of the purchase of a new part. From the economic point of view, savings of USD 800,000 could be achieved in the first case and USD 386,000,000 in the second case.
