Abstract

INTRODUCTION. The health emergency due to the pandemic caused the productive activities to be affected in their production chain. OBJECTIVE. The present research analyzes the effects of the sanitary crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic on the productive chain of artisans dedicated to the production of garments in the city of Quito. METHOD. The scope was exploratory-descriptive, surveys were conducted to 50 companies that have artisan qualification granted by the National Board for the Defense of Artisans. RESULTS. The government and support institutions have not established policies that benefit the actors in the chain, with variations in raw material costs that had a negative influence on the economy. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. There are problems of mobility, implementation of teleworking, reduction of working hours and reduction of personnel. It is concluded that the production chain of skilled artisans is weakened. The research has reflected the lack of public policy generation which has failed to benefit the sector in the context of the pandemic. The need to strengthen the leadership of the guild and improve relations with the companies linked to the chain is evident.
