Abstract
INTRODUCTION. Thermal comfort allows a house to be habitable; this condition varies with the climate and the supply of materials. The temperature of the Andes varies between 5 °C to 12 °C, where the Juan Benigno Vela parish is located. Identifying housing typologies and materials with traditional construction techniques. The research question Does the use of traditional materials in the construction of houses provide habitability through thermal comfort? OBJECTIVE. To investigate the conditions of thermal comfort in rural housing in Ambato through measurements of the exterior and interior temperature in order to make a diagnosis of the behavior of the materials used in the buildings. METHOD. The research is of experimental type, with quantitative approach; manipulation with independent variable housing typology and materiality and dependent variable environmental conditions. Data collection technique, with quantitative approach, by means of measurement, interview and architectural files. RESULTS. It was possible to analyze and compare the study with thermal comfort indicators of rural housing typologies establishing comfort ranges. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. As reflections, the thermal comfort ranges found in the analyzed case studies and how materiality and environment influence habitability are evidenced.
