Evaluation of soil amendment based on a Ramial Chipped Wood treatment in degraded Andean soils, Ilaló volcano case

Abstract
INTRODUCTION. The ceaseless global degradation of soils is a problem of significant importance, which is currently coped with different restoration proposals, among which is the use of Ramial Chipped Wood (RCW). OBJECTIVE. This research analyzes the variation of different physical and chemical factors that allow us to infer the viability of the RCW as a proposal for the soil amendment of degraded soils in Andean landscapes. METHOD. For this purpose, soil samples were collected from two plots, one with treatment and one without treatment, in these samples we conducted a fertility analysis, with those results the temporal and spatial variation were analyzed, using an ANOVA and Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW), respectively. RESULTS. Our results show a better condition and quality of the soil in the plot with treatment, as well as significant differences in the soil quality indicators. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. The results we obtained in this research support the use of RCW as an effective soil amendment for the treatment of degraded Andean soils.
