Abstract

INTRODUCTION. Covid-19 has had a negative impact on all societies and economies around the world; thus, all areas of life have been impacted. The closure of educational establishments, physical isolation and online education at home have been one of the challenges that families have had to face, especially the students’ parents or guardians. OBJECTIVE. Describe emotional intelligence in parents confined by covid-19, in Biobío region, Chile. METHOD. Quantitative, non-experimental, with a descriptive cross-sectional design. A total of 79 parents participated, 73 women and 6 men. To collect the information, a sociodemographic questionnaire and an emotional intelligence scale were used. RESULTS. The emotional intelligence scores perceived by the sample at the time of the evaluation are average; the dimension of intelligence that was developed the most was the evaluation of own emotions. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. Given the importance of emotional intelligence, it is suggested to investigate the relationship of this variable with other interesting psychoeducational ones in the different members of the educational community.
