Abstract
This text compiles the Proceedings of the I Pension Symposium: "Situation of Public Pension Systems: Necessary reforms in an economy with high informality", held on April 8, 2019, at the facilities of the Universidad Indoamerica, Quito.
The objective of this day was to reflect on the situation of the pension system in Ecuador. For this, it was necessary to approach the functioning of the labor market, taking into account the high informality rates that now prevail, as well as an evaluation of the current norms and of the coordination mechanisms between institutions responsible, directly or indirectly, for their development and implementation. After a general overview of the situation of public pension systems in European countries, presented by Juan Francisco Jimeno, of the Bank of Spain, which allowed establishing the main bases of the analysis, results of recent research analyzing the situation of Ecuador and possible reforms to consider in the future, by national researchers.
