In itinere accidents; risk level estimation in Hospital workers

Abstract
INTRODUCTION. Health workers throughout their full working day are exposed to different risks. This study focuses on in-itinere accidents, related especially to night shifts and extended working hours; as well as an increase in traffic accidents, its consequences and the public health problem that this represents. OBJECTIVE. To determine the risk of in itínere accidents in personnel that Works in a Basic Hospital. METHOD. Descriptive cross-sectional study, not experimental. Application of a survey to 237 health workers. RESULTS. A high level of risk was obtained in workers between the ages of 25 and 54, with men being more prone than women. In general, the risk level is important in 47%, moderate 43% and high 10%. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS. Health workers are subject to night extended working shifts of 24 hours, which can generate fatigue and drowsiness that added to factors such as sex, age, road and automovile conditions raise the risk of in itínere accidents.
